A bot I can't ban, or anything...PHP hacks anyone?

I kinda want a new forum, these two forums are so cluttered and we get almost thirty spam topics a day, lots of illegal stuff and "adult" related post, if we are getting this much of a problem with bots, the forum is pretty dirty, and this code is very inefficient and many things such as the IP ban system do not work right..

I however, I dealt with this by myself for a long time, moro helping maybe once every few days and Keaft once a week. Now with Gorath it should be less stress on me, but if I can't control these bots, I can't prevent spam, so if something is not right, please do not blame us mods. Please report and move on.

I will do my best to prevent spam, and get anything that is not right, however the post approval system currently in effect prevents a lot of the spam.

Maybe its possible to improve the signup captcha to help avoid bots registering in the first place? Most of the image recognition bots are pretty clever these days, but a custom solution, maybe asking xeno specific questions would be better than an image based system?

I would agree, but I haded suggest more measures in the past, but have never gotten anyway with it. If the IP system was working I would just go grab a load of IPs from that stopforumspam site.

Banning bots by IP is bad idea. There is thousands of proxies, and eventually you won't stop bots, you will only ban a lot of unrelated IPs. Good idea is editable auto-disapprove regexp lists. Like a text-field where you can put some template of generic spam message and any new message will be auto-disapproved if any regexp is matching.

Proxy proxy...Ban skyguys proxy? Anyway, that is the issue that comes to my attention. IP bans do tend to decrease bots, but I am not saying it will get rid of it, just a fair amount.

Regexp is better idea anyway - spam messages mostly following some pretty fixed templates, so if you put 2-5 template regular expressions, you will cut off nearly 80% of spam in our case.

Yea, it would decrease it, solely due too one reason..They all have something to do with "adult" content or some unrealistic sale, that links you too a bad site.

But, I do not have the power to do anything as such right now.
